Oakbank Racing Carnival
The Hills' historic Easter horse-racing carnival at Oakbank.
Easter at the races
For generations, Easter in the Adelaide Hills has meant Oakbank. Set in a natural grassed amphitheatre, the Oakbank racing carnival is one of Australia's most famous picnic race meetings - a tradition stretching back to the 1870s.
Families spread rugs on the hillside, the fashions come out, and the racing plays out on the historic course below. It's part race meeting, part Hills institution, part enormous garden party.
Good to know
The carnival runs over the Easter long weekend; check exact dates and the current program each year. Bring a picnic, a hat and a rug for the hill.
